Yarn Along: Travels with Farley

Today I'm joining Ginny for the Yarn Along...

I'm still working on my sweater for Sacha in Three Irish Girls Lindon Merino (Birch) and I have just started and already almost finished Travels with Farley: a memoir by Claire Mowat, wife of Farley Mowat. I cannot put this book down! I have had it waiting on my bookshelf for ages and finally just this week got around to reading it. This book recounts the Mowats' experiences living in the Magdalen Islands during the 1970s. The descriptions are wonderful and it's interesting for me, living on these islands today, to realize how much has changed and how much is still the same. Their sense of adventure and love of nature is awe-inspiring. Such a fascinating read!

  4. Hi, Just wanted to let you know that I bought the book for my father, he loved it and is now planning on reading some of Farley's own words. I'm half way through and am captivated. He makes me think of a sort of a Dylan Thomas kind of character - but without all the drunkenness. Can you recommend any books about life in the Magdalen Island as they are today? I told my husband that we may need to come there on holiday next year, and as I have family in Nova Scotia we could visit them too!

    1. Hi Emma, How wonderful!!! I'm so glad that both you and your Dad are enjoying the book. Thank you for writing to me to let me know. I don't know of any other good books that take place in the Magdalens. That's why I was so excited to discover this one!!! I do hope you come and visit the islands and if you do, please let me know, I would be very happy to meet you in person! Warmly, Sarah
