Keep Calm Craft On: Bag and Hearts

Joining Nicole for Keep Calm Craft On...

In need of a good big bag to fit both diapers and knitting and remembering this one (love it!), I decided to make one (the same!) for myself. The pattern can be found here. The fabric is from Ana Maria Horner, both inside and out. Such an easy sew and a great bag!

There was a lot of crafting going on around here last week (of the heart shaped kind)... Loane and I made some coloured beeswax hearts by warming some modelling beeswax and pressing the warm wax (so nice on the fingers!) into some heart shaped muffin moulds. Once hardened, we popped them out and tied them with some yarn to create a beautiful heart bunting to hang in the window. My pictures are a bit dark, but the light shining through the coloured beeswax is quite pretty.

Inspired by this project, the girls did a similar resist painting using oil pastels, beeswax crayons and fun glob paints.

And of course our bread had to be heart shaped...

I have been using the Christopherus Curriculum and D'Aulaire's Book of Norse Myths as well as the French translation of the Edda. We write a summary together or copy excerpts from the Edda.

J'utilise le programme Christopherus ainsi que le livre D'Aulaire pour me guider et je trouve ensuite des passages dans la traduction française de L'Edda que je lis à voix haute avec Lucie. Nous composons un résumé ensemble ou bien elle recopie des extraits de L'Edda.  

We have also been reading this Nancy Farmer novel out loud. 

Nous lisons aussi à voix haute le roman Prisonnier des Vikings de Nancy Farmer (suggestion qui me vient du forum francophone Steiner-Waldorf à la maison) que je trouve très bien pour le niveau de lecture de Lucie.

Some other interesting books that we will be reading this year, including the Kalevala...

Je viens aussi de mettre la main sur un exemplaire du Kalevala par Madeleine Gilard (autre suggestion du forum, mais difficile à trouver). Quel bijou!!! Il nous reste encore du boulot avec l'Edda, mais je réserve du temps pour le Kalevala. Une autre petite trouvaille, Le moulin magique.

Candlemas and Imbolc - Chandeleur et Imbolc

Today, we celebrated Candlemas and Imbolc.

Aujourd'hui, nous avons fêté la Chandeleur et Imbolc.

Our Imbolc story table with beeswax animals, gnomes and little Sun King (wood peg people and felt), as well as wool fairies that dance in the light, all made by Loane. A beautiful story that we worked on all week (found here).

Nous avons travaillé toute la semaine sur notre histoire d'Imbolc (une très belle histoire de l'École de la Terre). Loane a fabriqué de petits animaux en cire d'abeille, des gnomes et le petit Soleil Roi (figurines en bois et feutrine), ainsi que des fées et des ondines en laine qui dansent dans la lumière.

And of course, we ate crêpes

and lit many candles...

et allumé beaucoup de chandelles...
