Summer Solstice - Solstice d'été

The children keep offering me sweet little bouquets.

Les enfants m'offrent de jolis bouquets.

Lilacs for every room in the house (they bloom late here).

Des lilas pour chaque pièce de la maison (ils fleurissent tard ici).

Sun shaped bread.

Des petits pains en forme de soleils.

Nous préparons des confitures de fraises au miel.

The girls painted some glowing suns.

Les filles ont réalisé ces soleils à l'aquarelle.

Happy Summer Solstice!

Nous vous souhaitons un beau solstice d'été!

Yarn Along: Bean Pilot and Water Bottle Carrier

Joining Ginny for the Yarn Along.

I am working on a Lil' Bean Pilot baby hat with my beautiful Koigu yarn. I absolutely loved knitting this pattern and working with this yarn. I have only the ties left to do. I knit the newborn size but it seems a bit big to me. It's probably better that way, we might get more use out of it.

I am also knitting up some more felted water bottle carriers for the girls this summer. They will be starting a new Waldorf inspired day camp in July. We are so excited about it!

Lately I've been reading Calm and Compassionate Children: A Handbook as well as (returning to, for a second time) Buddhism for Mothers. Both are very inspiring and peaceful reads.

Keep Calm Craft On: Celtic Booties and Summer Quilt

Joining Nicole at Frontier Dreams for Keep Calm Craft On.

This week I am really happy to have a finished pair of Celtic Booties (for baby). I love this pattern by Celine and the colours in this beautiful Noro Kureyon yarn (Ravelry notes here). These have in fact been finished for a while now but I was waiting on the laces to arrive in the mail. Celine had suggested using buttons, but I finally decided on laces since I had already knitted the extra holes for them. I will save my buttons for the second pair I intend to knit. This pattern is available in French and English for anyone interested.

I also got around to almost finishing my summer quilt. I wanted a handy throw for our outdoor furniture or for sitting in the grass. The fabric reminds me of our fields so much. I just have the ties left to do.

And last but not least, we have started to enjoy and put away some of our rhubarb. I tried a new recipe this year for rhubarb-orange jam out of Canning for a new generation. I highly recommend this book. Every recipe I have tried so far (last year our favourites were the Peach Jam and Dilly Beans) has turned out very well and tastes fresh. The jam recipes in particular are not as sweet as other recipes I have tried. There are also some fermented vegetable recipes in the book that look interesting.

Happy crafting on!
