Spring Bulbs

Today we made some spring bulbs out of fabric and wool.

We first wrapped one end of a small stick (cut branch) with some brown roving. We then put a little scoop of  dried beans in the middle of a square piece of brown fabric and tied it up around our stick with some brown string or yarn.

The stick holds up straight in the pocket filled with roving and beans. This is our bulb.

We wrapped green roving around the rest of our stick. This is our shoot. 

We wrapped the tip of our stick in bright colours (roving) for the flower buds.

We tucked some green roving into the bulb-pocket for some leaves.

April Storms - Tempêtes d'avril

We are just coming out of our second storm in a week. We have been unable to leave the house for several days at a time and the electricity has been going on and off. It's hard to believe that this is April!

Nous sortons tout juste de notre deuxième tempête en moins d'une semaine. Nous n'avons pas pu sortir de la maison pendant plusieurs jours et nous avons subi plusieurs pannes d'électricité. C'est difficile de croire que nous sommes en avril!

thank goodness for our wood cook stove!/heureusement que nous avons un poêle à bois!

Today the weather was beautiful. The winds calmed down and the snow and ice started melting. Finally we could get out! We managed to go visit some friends.

Aujourd'hui le beau temps est revenu. Les vents se sont calmés et la neige et la glace ont commencé à fondre. Enfin nous avons pu sortir! Nous sommes allés visiter des amis.

This week I sewed some new pillowcases for Lucie, my owl lover. I used this simple method.

I've been asked to create some wool mobiles. This is the first one that I've finished.

Keep Calm Craft On: Infinity Scarf and Gift Basket

This week I worked on some more birthday gifts (so many this time of year!). I sewed an infinity scarf for a friend of mine using this pattern. The fabric was purchased at Purl Soho a few years ago. 

I also put together a gift basket for a little friend using this pattern. For the gnome I used Tonya's pattern and some Peace Fleece from my stash. The girls and I hand-dyed the silk with red cabbage and a mixture of yellow onion and turmeric.
